Hospice Care, also sometimes called Palliative Care, is specialized care that is centered around keeping an animal as comfortable as possible in the face of a terminal illness or an illness that will eventually lead to their death.
Since the goal of care is comfort and enjoyment of life, the treatment plan is centered around pain management, anxiety management, appetite stimulation, and other factors to ensure a reasonable quality of life is maintained for as long as possible. The goal is NOT curative therapy but rather the improving the quality of their remaining time.
Once your pet has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and you have decided that in-home hospice care is right for them, we can partner with you to develop a specialized care plan to help maintain a high quality of life for as long as possible. We will discuss their personality and the activities that they enjoy, as well as your goals for their care. Together, we will build a plan that may include some lifestyle modifications, diet options, medications or supplements, or other options to ensure your pet lives their best life for as long as possible. We will also discuss the typical progression of their disease process, signs that indicate a worsening condition as well as how to best manage those changes, and end of life planning to ensure your pet does not experience prolonged suffering.
